Individually Tailored Instruction

Overlake Specialty School is a highly-structured year-round alternative school specifically designed to serve students with special education services and are impacted by academic, social, emotional and/or behavioral disabilities. Each student comes to the Specialty School with different life experiences, dispositions, and learning histories.

Instruction is highly differentiated in order to support students' academic growth. Many of our students have fallen below grade level in at least one academic area, often as a result of social, emotional, and behavioral challenges. We aim to help students make up for lost ground in academic skills, while creating an environment in which students' efforts are acknowledged and they can enjoy learning. We provide regular assessments to evaluate students' progress, assess their level of competence, and guide us as we gradually increase academic challenges.

Many of our students will perform at grade level in academics by the time they have transitioned back to their public school.
